U.S.A Claims that Australia and New Zealand are experts on the Pacific..!!!

statue_of_liberty1Outgoing Acting US Ambassador to NZ Dr Dave Keegan was interviewed by NZTV1’s Mark Sainsbury on Sunday. He had this to say about Australian, NZ, the US and the Fiji “situation.”
Keegan: The role of the US in the Pacific I think is longstanding, you know out of Hawaii which is our Pacific state, out of American territories, Guam, American Samoa, and others, but we’re also not going to step in and try to recreate the kind of expertise that Australia and New Zealand bring to the table. You have a degree of knowledge and a degree of understanding of how to make things work there that we want to take advantage of and be the beneficiary of, and figure out how we can add value.

  1. Dear me, Dr Dave Keegan is sorely misled. How long was he in New Zealand? Perhaps he too should be sent off to Burma ( known by some as Myanmar) as a stablemate of his was recently: only to turn up on our televisions screens shaking hands vigorously with numerous Burmese Generals. Formerly, this same stablemate appeared to have an aversion to military men – at least in Fiji he had.

  2. Keegan said:”move back to a real democracy.” Perhaps he means move foward to real democracy, or completely out of touch with Fiji situation dating back to “when Adam was a boy”. We are just seeing off “Talagi” and here comes a “Palagi”. Next please!!!!!

  3. Good one SOE & joe!
By the way, I’m pleased that Keegan said that the US “will not step in and try to recreate the kind of expertise that NZ & Oz bring to the table”, because they could never do it! Beside most Pacific countries are not US territories anyway -particularly Fiji.

Also what degree of understanding and knowledge do OZ & NZ is he talking about? How big is that degree of knowledge and understanding?

Yes they do have a “certain” degree of knowledge on how things work in the Pacific, but not full knowledge of how things work in Fiji!

    Hate it when politicians generalise!

  4. ‘Generalising’ with the generals? That is a worry because in Fiji ‘adding value’ means ensuring that a full democratic process will eventually be accessible to everyone. Not too many politicans that one might care to mention have assisted this process. Indeed, most have sought to exploit it for their own ends and interests. Is this ‘generalising’ unfairly? Sadly, no.

  5. @ Yellowfin

‘Adding value’ that you mention must now mean that Fiji is able to access all the assistance it requires in countering corruption. Especially corruption that has been orchestrated by overseas nationals residing within Fiji’s borders. Evidence is now being received concerning this. I have seen some myself this week. These people are hardly ‘adding value’ to our nation? They are exploiting Fiji’s resources and corrupting our Police and public officials. Some have been up to this for years. We now need full recognition of this by our overseas former partners. We also need the FBI, Scotland Yard, AFP, NZ Police and most of all Interpol and other agencies to step up promptly to assist in rooting this corruption out. Those who have profited by their corrupt dealings within Fiji’s borders must be subjected to due process and, if required, extradited to stand trial.

  6. frank is the main man….for all the corruption and so on…he will fix…no worrys…he will put all this cunts in jail…trust in me…..his switched on….do not underestimate………i repeat…do not underestimate…..him……godbless fiji and its people…..

  7. Keegan is trying to fool us. As if we dont know what US and its allies are all about. We still remember how CIA lured Russia into Afghanistan in 1979 and funded terrorists to fight the Russians. The monster created by US then,(now known as Taliban, Al-Qaida, LeT etc), is a real menace today.

  8. This is from wikipedia. Clearly applies to Fiji situation.

Mere elections are just one aspect of the democratic process. If one examines the central tenets of democracy, i.e. equality and freedom, these are frequently absent in ostensibly democratic countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, and to some extent India, with its caste system and votebank politics.

Moreover, in many countries, democratic participation is less than 50% at times, which makes them democracies only in name. The Election of individual(s) instead of ideas is the primary disrupter of democracy.

  9. Come on Obama!!! How can you have such dickheads as ambassadors? Are you part of the problem or solution????

  10. @ All

I am sure that the USA’s representative has more than enough qualifications to make the statement and take the line that he has against the Military Dictatorship in Fiji.

You are all seriously deluded if you think that Obama assigned an incompetent to the role – about as deluded as thinking that Bainimarama is a “good thing” for Fiji – grow up, go to school and get a job people.
