Fiji Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has announced a new lineup of directors for the Fiji National Provident Fund, the country’s sole national pension scheme.
Only permanent secretary for the Ministry of Labour Taito Waqa remains on the board.
Out is board chairman, Parmesh Chand, the permanent secretary for the Public Service Commission; trade union representatives Felix Anthony and Daniel Urai; employer representatives Howard Politini and James Dutta.
Permanent secretary for Finance John Prasad is the new chairman.
Other board members are expected to be announced soon.
“We had a meeting at the weekend and reviewed the function and objective of the FNPF board,” said Bainimarama
“We have to operate cost effectively and reduce the Fund’s exposure, and ensure we make wise investments to maximize benefits to the members.”
While thanking the old board for their hard work and contribution, Bainimarama said that his Government is looking at reviewing the boards of other statutory bodies.
