Fiji’s Land Force Commander Colonel Pita Driti says the military is one hundred per cent behind the decisions made by the army commander, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
Driti said in an exclusive interview with FijiLive, he was making the assurance because he said there were rumours of a split in the military following Bainimarama’s decision to cancel the annual Methodist Church conference in August.
“That stance is hundred percent supported by the military council,” Driti said.
“I say this because there are rumours that there is a split in the military council.
“We would like to categorically state that we are 100 per cent behind the commander in his decisions because we also understand the gravity of the outcomes of the discussions given in the (conference) agenda.”
Bainimarama told church leaders at a meeting yesterday the conference could only be held if politics was removed not only from the agenda of the annual church event but from the church as well.
